I am addicted to books. I am in love with the most amazing man in the world. I am not easily embarrassed. I have 3 cats; Sophie, Chuck & Moo. I work in a dead end job that has NOTHING to do with what I went to school for. I am happier now than I have been in years. This is my infrequent personal update.
I fell down some stairs, in the rain and bumped along on my backside for about 4 stairs about a month and a half ago. It was the beginning of my “weekend” (I work Fri-Tues) and I figured I would just rest and that I’d be sore for a bit. When by Thursday I didn’t feel that much better (I unfortunately have a had a lot of tumbles down this particular set of stairs) I made an appointment with my doctor.
I went and she said that she was fairly certain I had fractured my tailbone. She prescribed me 800mg Ibuprofen and sent me for x-rays. I did the x-rays and the tech showed me where my fracture was and pretty much that it would heal on its own.
The next week, I get a call from my doctor’s office. The lady tells me that they saw some narrowing of my spine and were sending me to get an MRI.
Two weeks later, I go in for my MRI. It was possibly one of the most uncomfortable experiences I have ever had (and I have had surgery on my ass twice). For someone who is mildly claustrophobic and having to lay on a hard plastic “bed” for 30 minutes, not such a good experience. I made it through.
I talked to my grandma (she is my go to person when it comes to anything medical, she’s a long long time nurse). She said there were so many different things it could be, that I shouldn’t worry.
I got the results back from my MRI last week. I have a herniated disc (L5-SI) and some osteoarthritis. They referred me to a spine specialist who recommended physical therapy and if that didn’t work, nerve blocks.
I have been going to PT 3 times a week. It helps but I am still experiencing pain.
Due to a string of medical issues, I have been placed on an attendance plan. Basically, I cannot be late, leave early or call out of a shift for the next 3 months. Which was a problem given that my job is 100% sitting and answering telephones. I applied for FMLA so I would be able to take care of my back without losing my job (and my health insurance).
I’ve also been seeing a new therapist. One bit of my string of medical issues was a nasty case of panic/anxiety attacks that came almost daily for 3 weeks. Things have been going well and I have been able to handle my panic attacks well.
And there is my medical update. haha
